Have You Ever Been Pulled to Do Something?
Recently, I’ve found myself in a routine that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. My mental alarm goes off at 4 AM, and instead of rolling over or hitting snooze, I’m up and coding. I spend a couple of hours immersed in lines of code before heading off to work. After my day is done and I’ve squeezed in a workout or a jog, I’m back at it, coding until 9:30 PM. If you know me, you know that 9 PM is usually tea time, with lights out shortly after. So, how did I get here?
It all started with a deep love for data, analytics, and numbers—a passion that has been growing for over two decades. I’ve spent more than 20 years as a GM, operating big-box businesses, working for companies like Walgreens, Save A Lot, Whole Foods, Rouse’s, and Central Market. But it wasn’t until the last three years that I dove into the world of coding, learning SQL and Python for data science.
My journey took an unexpected turn when I was offered an opportunity to solve an operations problem for a friend of a friend. The task involved building an elaborate dashboard, recipe scaling, and an order guide—all in Excel. When I finished, I looked at the masterpiece and thought, “I could probably code this in Python.” That’s when the real adventure began.
With YouTube and ChatGPT as my companions, I hired a designer from FIVER to design the UI in a Figma file, with the help of a colleague we translated that into HTML and CSS. I struggled to understand and therefore articulate what I needed from a backend developer, I decided to take a page out of the #Bezos and #BillGates playbook and do it myself. I’m talking hours of Youtube and Chatgpt, we are weeks away from launching our MVP… It took a little longer than expected.
For months, I stared at videos and screens, feeling like I was making little to no progress. But then, as often happens when you push through the frustration, patterns in the process began to emerge. The more I learned, the more I was pulled deeper into the work. Now, here I am, rising at 4 AM to code before work, and continuing long after the sun has set.
This journey has taught me that when you’re truly passionate about something, it pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The same drive that keeps me coding into the night is what I bring to every project at Culinary Analytics Consultation Group. When you work with me, you’re not just getting a consultant—you’re getting someone who is relentless in pursuit of success, whether it’s in the smallest details or the largest initiatives.
Now, it’s your turn. Schedule some time to see how the power of AI, machine learning, Lean Six Sigma methodology, and an experienced, never-quit, veteran-owned business can guide you to a more profitable operation. #Onward and #Upward.
